India: Deutsche Bank changes NPL strategy

The Corona crisis also influences Deutsche Bank’s India strategy. At the beginning of the year, the largest German commercial bank was still in negotiations regarding a large NPL portfolio. Currently, however, the activities are on hold, as Werner Steinmüller, head of the Asia business, explained to the Handelsblatt. The bank is currently acting very cautiously in new business with non-performing loans: «We don’t know when this crisis will peak, and are therefore acting particularly prudently,» says Steinmüller. Deutsche Bank is now trying to pass on the majority of an NPL portfolio directly and to keep only a small proportion on its books itself.
